Historic Environment

Comment Date: Wed 10 Jul 2024

The Church of St Aubyn, 16 Chapel Street, Plymouth is a Grade II* listed building (NHLE No: 1130019), historically significant for being the first new church build to accommodate the expanding congregation prompted by the development of the dockyard in the 18th century. It is protected in law by the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990 and due consideration needs to be given to Chapter 16 of the National Planning Policy Framework and Policy DEV21 of the Plymouth and South West Devon Joint Local Plan.

After a review of the supplied drawings and methodology for the repair and replacement of the roof, we are confident that the proposals meet the highest of standards and seek to both conserve and enhance the building. Proposals are compliant with both local and national policies and best practice. We are thus supportive of the application.
