Thank you for consulting Historic Environment regarding this listed building consent application for the installation of 2no. roof mounted ventilation cowls within the roof of the grade I listed Quadrangle building (NHL - 1378566)Historic Environment have no objections to the proposed works. The roof covering is entirely modern, as such the insertion of the two cowls will not materially harm any significant historic fabric. The proposed location will result in minimal visual harm. Internally the building is highly industrial, the cowls and proposed suspended ceiling will be in keeping with the existing use and fit out of the building.
We consider the harm to be at the lower end of "less than substantial" and consider there to be public benefit resulting from the installation that will allow the continued use of the grade I structure to support fleet operations as originally designed and intended.
If any mechanical fixing to the iron roof trusses is required as part of this installation we would request that the fixing is reversible, however the drawing suggest that this is not required.
