Thank you for consulting Historic Environment about the above application for new ATM collars and shrouds at 12-14 Old Town Street.The building is not listed but located within the City Centre Conservation Area (Adopted 2022).
Historic Environment have no in-principle objections to the proposed development. The proposed is of comparable impact to the existing ATM installation, as such the harm to the conservation area is considered negligible to none. That being said we would highlight the guidance within the Plymouth City Centre Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Plan. The colour palette of existing or newly introduced elements within the conservation area need to be carefully considered, there is the opportunity here to enhance or reintroduce colours consistent with the Mid-Century period. Elements of the colour palette showcased and used for the 1951 Festival of Britain could offer potential options for improving the façade with a reference to the 1950's character of the conservation area.
