Dear Helen
Highway Authority Consultation Response to a Planning Application
APPLICATION NO: 25/00809/CDM
SITE: DERRIFORD HOSPITAL, DERRIFORD ROAD, PLYMOUTH
DEVELOPMENT: Condition Discharge: Condition 17 (Signage Strategy) of application 25/00381/S73
Observations:
Whilst I would not wish to raise any in-principle objections to this application from a LHA viewpoint, I would wish to make the following observations:
' In terms of wayfinding, all of the directional signage would appear to start on the access road which leads straight to the Dartmoor Building. No consideration appears to have been given in relation to directional signing from key destinations towards the Dartmoor Building for instance from the PT Interchange, the front entrance to Derriford Hospital, the MSCP etc. Patients are likely to be arriving at these locations either by car or by bus and therefore what signing is there to direct them to the Dartmoor Building from these places? This needs to be considered.
' Some further wayfinding/directional signage should be provided for pedestrians/cyclists arriving at the Dartmoor Building from Tavistock Road. Reference is made to a sign signifying an arrival at Derriford Hospital (Sign 8). Should this sign not also refer to the Dartmoor Building?
' I would question the need for the 'Cyclists Dismount' sign (no 18) as most cyclists are likely to chose to cycle through the car parking area at the front of the building.
Recommendation:
Whilst the LHA have no objections to planning permission being granted, it is recommended that the above-mentioned comments be addressed.
