Historic Environment

Comment Date: Fri 08 Aug 2025

Thank you for consulting Historic Environment about the above retrospective listed building consent application for the removal of a stud wall within 42 Emma Place. The grade II listed terrace numbered 39-48 is block listed and within the Stonehouse Peninsula Conservation Area.

Historic Environment have no objections to the removal of the stud wall and reinstatement of the full ceiling heigh within the living space. This would allow for a clear appreciation of the dimensions of the listed building and may uncover historic cornice details that have been previously covered.

The work results in a very low level of less than substantial harm, it is in the public interest in that it removes later unsympathetic alterations, and it will not impact the overall significance of the listed terrace or conservation area. As such it is considered compliant with current legislation and guidance and we recommend it is acceptable without any recommended conditions.
