PLYMOUTH CITY COUNCIL CONSULTEE COMMENTS FOR A PLANNING APPLICATION.

APPLICATION SUMMARY
PLANNING APPLICATION: 25/01041/FUL
ADDRESS: National Marine Aquarium, Rope Walk, Plymouth PL4 0LF
DESCRIPTION: New fire escape exit and associated external stairs. Alterations to visitor entrance and exit.

CASE OFFICER: Joanna Churchill (Planning Officer)
Development Management, PCC Strategic Planning & Infrastructure, Floor 2 Ballard House PL1 3BJ

CONSULTEE: Gary Lester (Transport Officer)
PCC Strategic Planning & Infrastructure, Transport Planning Team, Floor 2 Ballard House PL1 3BJ

Date: 22nd August 2025

COMMENTS:
The Local Highway Authority (LHA) would not raise any objections in principle to the proposed new fire escape exit on level 3 of the building with associated external stairs, along with alterations to the visitor entrance and exit, at the National Marine Aquarium (NMA).

The location of the proposed new fire escape will lead from level 3 of the building into the gated NMA garden, which also provides access for a fire engine.

The alterations to visitor entrance and exit are intended to improve visitor safety when there are high winds to prevent the risk of doors slamming, by replacing the existing swing doors, with sliding doors, to eliminate the risk of injury.

The proposed works for a new fire escape, and alterations to the visitor entrance and exit at the National Marine Aquarium (NMA), That are contained with the private site would have no transport or highway impacts.

SUMMARY:
The Local Highway Authority would raise any objections to the proposed alterations at the NMA in accordance with the submitted details. No objections.
